Ducati Desert_X rear and side grill
Ducati Desert_X rear and side grill. The Ducati Desert X does not have mounting points for the rear rack, so we created our own! Not another curved scaffold-style luggage rack, but some beautifully machined aluminum brackets in the Ducati Trellis style. The rack relies on two aluminum clamps that clamp around the frame tube, adjustable to allow for frame variations (so no need to bend or hammer into place!) Stable, solid, and complements the look of the Desert -X. Our own design and manufactured in our own aluminum workshop made in Billet Swiss. Our luggage rack DO NOT it uses the side rack mounting points, so you can still fit the side racks of your choice, including ours. It also works with the optional rear tanks.
The rear luggage plate is angled to the sides for better support of your bag, while the slots in the plate are large enough to slide the buckles. You'll notice that we haven't gone overboard with all kinds of holes and slots in the luggage plate, as their job is to support your suitcase rather than damage it. All corners and edges are rounded or chamfered to prevent damage to bags and straps. Finished in hard anodized black and titanium for maximum durability.
The idea behind the side racks
We don't believe in heavy steel scaffold style luggage racks as we think it would be wasteful to turn a big bike into a Frankenstein dump truck by adding 20kg of dead weight just on irons and boxes. No matter what the salesperson tells you, adding dead weight means you need to add more spring force and damping to compensate, while also making it harder to recover on rebound. Adding more spring force and stiffening the damping, no matter how fancy the suspension, is never going to be as good as a lightweight. Especially when the going gets tough. That's why we created an aluminum roof rack system that's machined from billet aluminum - designed to be lightweight and strong! We made a rack specifically for enduro and horseshoe type bags. These use straps or a base that sits over the seat and therefore puts the weight on the seat or rear rack, which is just where you want it and why won't affect handling like hard bags or traditional, as the weight is centralized on the bike instead of hanging off the side of it. It also means we can make a much lighter rack since you only need to keep the bags away from the exhaust and rear wheel and prevent forward, backward and sideways movement.
